Nationwide Strike Tomorrow: Bharat Bandh 12 Feb 2026 Impact and Latest News

Source : Goodreturns

A nationwide Bharat Bandh is scheduled for Thursday, 12 February 2026. The strike is expected to involve approximately 30 crore workers and will likely impact several key sectors across the country.

Why is the Bandh happening?

The strike has been called by a joint forum of 10 Central Trade Unions (including INTUC, AITUC, HMS, and CITU) and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). Their primary demands and reasons for protest include:

  • Labour Reforms: Opposing the four new Labour Codes which unions claim weaken worker protections and job security.
  • India-US Trade Deal: Opposing a proposed trade agreement with the US, which farmer groups fear will lead to a flood of cheap American imports.
  • Other Demands: Withdrawal of the Draft Seed Bill, the Electricity Amendment Bill, and the SHANTI Act.

What is expected to be Closed?

Disruptions are likely in over 600 districts, with specific impacts varying by state:

  • Banks: Major public sector banks (like SBI, PNB, and Bank of Baroda) have warned of potential disruptions as several bank unions are joining the strike.
  • Transport: Public transport, including state-run buses (KSRTC, etc.) and some taxi/auto services, may be limited, particularly in Kerala and Odisha.
  • Education: While no national holiday is declared, schools and colleges in states like KeralaOdisha, and parts of Karnataka are likely to remain closed as a precaution.
  • Offices & Markets: Government offices and local markets in protest-heavy regions may see low attendance or voluntary closures.

What will remain Open?

Essential services are generally exempt from the strike:

  • Healthcare: Hospitals, pharmacies, and ambulance services.
  • Emergency Services: Fire and rescue, and water/electricity utilities.
  • Daily Essentials: Milk supply and newspapers.
  • High-Priority Transport: Airports and train services (though reaching them may be difficult due to road blockades).

Pro-tip: If you are travelling, check for local updates on the Delhi Police Twitter/X or your city’s traffic police handle for any road diversions. You can also track official bank holiday status via the RBI’s holiday calendar.
